Substrate

Growing in substrate has quickly become a proven method of farming as it can save water and improve yields. Other benefits of growing with substrate in pots or bags are that water is applied directly to the root zone, irrigation, drainage and weeds can be better controlled, and soil fumigation is not a requirement.

Over the past few years we’ve designed over 30 substrate systems from manual to fully automated controls. Since the typically strategy for substrate growing is pulse irrigation, having an automated system allows for improved scheduling and flexibility. Many of our designs have also included automated or semi-automated fertilizer injection systems that have helped growers manage their nutrients and produce more with less.

These automated irrigation and fertilizer injection systems can have start triggers based off soil moisture, temperature, humidity, solar radiation, time and even plant evapotranspiration. Take a look at the photos of some of the substrate jobs we’ve done.
